I’ve Fully Switched from an Oil-Based Credit Economy to a Water-Based Economy
I’ve now fully switched from what I call an oil-based credit economy to a water-based economy.
For me, the oil-based credit economy represents constantly spending money, consuming resources and relying on credit to keep everything moving. The water-based economy is my alternative philosophy: use water, sunlight, time and practical work to create something of value.
Instead of borrowing more money to keep promoting my ideas, I want to concentrate on what I already have. I’ve built the websites, published the content and got the message online. Now I can give that work time to develop through search engines, links, recommendations and word of mouth.
The same principle applies at home.
A packet of seeds can become plants. Water and sunlight can turn those plants into food. Strawberry plants can produce runners that become new plants. Potatoes can produce another crop. It isn’t free—land, equipment, electricity and people’s time still have costs—but it demonstrates how relatively small inputs can produce something useful over time.
That is what I mean by a water-based economy.
WATER + SUNLIGHT + TIME = GROWTH
It is deliberately slower than borrowing money and immediately buying whatever you need. But slower growth can also encourage patience, lower spending and greater self-reliance.
I want to apply the same thinking to my websites. Rather than continually spending money trying to force traffic, I can improve useful content, maintain the sites and allow legitimate SEO and word of mouth to develop over time. Google rankings are never guaranteed, so the objective is to earn visibility by making pages genuinely useful to the people searching for them.
My next stage isn’t about spending the last pound chasing the next click. It is about making better use of the resources already available to me.
Grow food.
Conserve resources.
Avoid unnecessary debt.
Create useful things.
Share ideas with other people.
The oil money has been spent getting the message out there.
Now I’m giving the water-based economy time to grow.
