Memorable Branding: Be the Website People Actually Remember
Think about how many websites you visit every week.
You search Google, click a result, spend 20 seconds looking around and then hit the back button. An hour later, could you remember the name of the company?
Probably not.
That’s one of the biggest problems businesses face online. There are millions of perfectly respectable websites that look professional, say all the right things and are almost completely forgettable.
I decided to take a different approach.
Mine Is the Website With the Gods and the Woman in Her Bra
Ha ha.
But you remembered it, didn’t you?
That’s the point.
My marketing strategy isn’t about making Stovin.co.uk look exactly like every other web design and marketing company. I want the brand to have personality.
Gods. Strange graphics. Unexpected jokes. Bold ideas. Memorable imagery.
You might love it. You might think, “What on earth have I just looked at?”
Either way, there’s a good chance you’ll remember it.
Being Professional Doesn’t Mean Being Boring
There seems to be an unwritten rule in business that every website needs the same ingredients: a photograph of people shaking hands, someone pointing at a laptop, a few blue buttons and lots of corporate language about delivering innovative solutions.
There’s nothing necessarily wrong with that.
The problem is that when everybody follows the same formula, everybody starts looking the same.
A memorable brand needs an identity.
Think about the businesses you remember. They often have a distinctive colour, character, slogan, advertising style, sense of humour or way of communicating.
You recognise them before you’ve even finished reading the advert.
That’s branding.
Remarkable Marketing Gets People Talking
One of the principles behind my approach is simple:
Give people something worth remembering.
A website shouldn’t simply exist. It should create an impression.
If somebody visits ten web designers today and nine of them look virtually identical, which one are they likely to remember tomorrow?
Maybe it’s the one with the gods and the woman in her bra.
Ha ha.
The joke itself becomes a memory trigger.
“Who was that web designer?”
“You know — the one with all the crazy gods.”
“Oh yeah. Stovin.”
Mission accomplished.
Memorable Doesn’t Mean Random
There’s an important distinction between being different and simply creating chaos.
Good memorable marketing still needs to communicate what the business actually does.
For Stovin.co.uk, underneath the unusual graphics and humour you’ll find real services: website design, SEO, branding and digital marketing.
The personality attracts attention.
The website explains the offer.
The work gives people a reason to become customers.
That’s the combination I’m interested in.
Don’t Just Build a Website. Build a Brand.
Getting somebody onto your website is only the beginning.
You want them to remember you after they’ve left.
You want them to recognise your next advert.
You want your business name to come to mind when they eventually need the service you provide.
That’s why I’m not particularly interested in building another anonymous corporate website that disappears into a sea of identical competitors.
I’d rather create something with character.
Something people talk about.
Something people remember.
Because thousands of websites are forgotten every day.
Stovin.co.uk intends to be one of the memorable ones.
