SEO Case Study: From Google Ads Keyword Research to a #1 Ranking for “Cheap Beds”

At Stovin Advertising, we believe successful SEO starts with understanding what potential customers are actually searching for—and, importantly, which searches generate commercial results.

One of our previous SEO projects involved working as an SEO consultant for home furnishings retailer HF4You. Rather than relying purely on assumptions about which keywords would perform, we were able to use real advertising data to help shape the organic SEO strategy.

Using Google Ads to Discover Money Keywords

HF4You ran a large Google AdWords campaign covering a wide range of home furnishing and bedroom-related searches.

The campaign provided valuable keyword data. By looking at search behaviour and commercial performance, we identified two particularly important phrases:

“cheap beds” and “bed sale.”

These were the kinds of keywords we wanted to target organically because they demonstrated strong commercial intent. Someone searching for a cheap bed or a bed sale isn’t simply researching furniture—they may be actively looking to make a purchase.

This is one of the major advantages of combining PPC and SEO. Paid advertising can provide useful evidence about which search terms deserve investment before committing significant time and resources to an organic campaign.

Building an SEO Strategy Around CheapBedSale.co.uk

With the keyword research completed, we acquired the keyword-rich domain:

CheapBedSale.co.uk

The objective was straightforward: develop a dedicated website and SEO strategy around the commercial bed-related searches that our research had identified.

However, buying a keyword-rich domain isn’t an SEO strategy by itself.

The domain needed a useful website, relevant content, appropriate optimisation and sufficient authority to compete in Google’s organic search results. The keyword research simply gave the project a strong commercial direction.

Ranking #1 for “Cheap Beds”

The strategy ultimately produced the result we were targeting: CheapBedSale.co.uk achieved the number-one Google ranking for “cheap beds.”

For us, the project demonstrated an important principle of search marketing:

Don’t guess which keywords make money. Test them.

A sufficiently broad paid-search campaign can provide valuable information about how customers search and which terms are commercially important. That intelligence can then help inform a longer-term SEO campaign.

PPC Data + SEO Strategy

The Cheap Bed Sale project is a good example of how different areas of digital marketing can work together.

Google Ads can generate traffic immediately while producing keyword and conversion data. SEO can then use those insights to pursue sustainable organic visibility for strategically important searches.

Our process was:

Advertising data → keyword research → identify money keywords → develop the website → optimise for organic search → pursue Google rankings.

For HF4You and Cheap Bed Sale, that process helped turn the phrase “cheap beds” from a keyword discovered through paid advertising into a number-one organic Google ranking.

At Stovin Advertising, our approach to SEO is built around commercial objectives rather than rankings for the sake of rankings.
