The Minimum Contact Information Every Business Website Should Have

Your website is often the first point of contact between your business and a potential customer. If someone likes what they see, the next question is simple: how do they contact you?

At Stovin Advertising, we believe the minimum contact information a business website should provide is:

  • A working email address
  • A working telephone number

Everything else can be added depending on the needs of the business, but these two contact methods provide a solid starting point.

Your Business Email Address

Email gives customers a convenient way to contact your business without needing an immediate response.

It is particularly useful for enquiries involving quotations, specifications, documents, photographs or information that customers and businesses may want to keep for future reference.

Where possible, use a professional email address associated with your domain, such as sales@yourbusiness.co.uk or hello@yourbusiness.co.uk.

Whatever email address you publish, make sure somebody regularly checks it.

Your Business Phone Number

Some customers don’t want to fill in forms or wait for an email response. They simply want to pick up the phone and speak to somebody.

A clearly displayed telephone number can make your business easier to contact and can be especially important when a prospective customer has questions before making a purchase or requesting a quotation.

On mobile websites, consider making the number clickable so visitors can call you directly from their phone.

Don’t Hide Your Contact Details

A beautifully designed website isn’t much use as a sales tool if customers struggle to work out how to contact the business behind it.

Your email address and telephone number should be easy to find. Good locations include the website header, footer and dedicated contact page.

You can supplement these with a contact form, social-media profiles, WhatsApp, live chat, opening hours or a physical business address where appropriate.

Keep It Simple

Small-business websites don’t necessarily need complicated communication systems.

Start with the essentials: a telephone number that customers can call and an email address that you regularly monitor.

Make them prominent, keep them up to date and test them occasionally to make sure everything works.

A customer who can’t contact you can’t easily become a customer.
